Tour program:
The first day
07:00 - departure from Saint Petersburg (“Moskovskaya” metro station)
10:30 - visit the Museum of wooden architecture "Vitoslavlitsy", which is an impressive landmark of Veliky Novgorod and its surroundings.
12:00-14:20 - walk through the historical center of Novgorod with a tour around the Great Kremlin, which is included in the UNESCO world heritage list. Then we shall see a white-stoned masterpiece of church architecture, the most ancient temple of Russia - Sofiysky Cathedral, “Yaroslavovo Dvorishche” - the only place in Russia where seven different style churches are located altogether closely to each other in one area. During the tour of the Detinets Courtyard, we shall have a great opportunity to see a truly epoch-making creation of such sculptors as Mikeshin, Hartman and Schroeder – “Millennium of Russia” monument.
14:30 - lunch at the cafe (is not included, 350 rubles.)
17:30 - a fascinating walk through the city of Porkhov, which was founded by Alexander Nevsky on the banks of the Shelon River, as a defense of the Novgorod Principality from the raids of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania. We shall visit the Porkhov Fortress and the Church of the Nativity of the Virgin - one of the oldest in Pskov region.
20:00 - arrival to Pskov and accommodation in one of the hotels.
The second day
07:30 - Breakfast at the hotel
08:00 - walk through the picturesque stone city of Izborsk with a visit to the outstanding ensemble of defense constructions’ architecture of Ancient Russia – Izborskaya Fortress.
11:30 - visit to Pskovo-Pechersky Uspensky Monastery, which is a stronghold of the Christian faith. Then we shall visit the unique caves of the monastery - the Necropolis, where the relics of the saints are buried, and listen to the stories about the life of the monks who have carefully preserved their monastery for many centuries.
13:30 - lunch at the cafe (not included, 350 rubles)
16:00 - Olginskaya Chapel. We shall listen to legends about Grand Duchess Olga, who was to be the first Christian in Russia, whose name is tightly linked with the history of the city. We shall also take beautiful photos and videos in this beautiful place.
17:00 - visit to Pskov Kremlin. We shall walk through the territory of the main fortress of Pskov, which keeps the memory and legends of glorious deeds. It is not only a magnificent architectural monument of the city, but also a cultural center. They say that when you see the Kremlin, you can understand the very soul of the city. Next, we shall walk up the highest point of the city, where the Holy Trinity Cathedral stands majestically. The spirit and beauty of this place are closely interlaced and form an extraordinary sense of antiquity and peace.
