- Description
We welcome you to visit one of the most beautiful Russian cities - Valdai, known for its numerous Orthodox relics and natural objects, such as the national Park and picturesque Valdai lake, stretching for 40 miles!
Our Russian-speaking guide will show you the oldest & famous Iverskiy monastery, located on island. The monastery was built by Patriarch Nikon in the XVII century, and approved the construction of the Tsar himself Alexei Mikhailovich. The story says that the patriarch had a vision in the form of a pillar of fire, marking the place of construction of one of the three monasteries founded by him. The prototype of the cathedral in the architectural plan was the Iver Monastery on Mount Athos. The main value of the Valdai monastery was a copy (list) of Iberian icon, brought from Mount Athos. She was very richly decorated and framed with a magnificent golden rhizome. The cost of jewelry at that time was more than 44 thousand rubles in silver. After this miraculous icon was seized and taken away, it was found and stored in the only existing church of the Valdai region at that time - the cemetery Petropavlovskaya. When the monastery was restored, the masters of the city of Zlatoust made for the icon a new precious robe in return for the stolen. It was consecrated in December 2006, and since then the holy Iver icon has once again adorned the iconostasis of the monastery. Interesting for the inspection and the bell tower of the Iversky Monastery in Valdai. The bells here beat off the bells every 15 minutes, as if greeting pilgrims.
Then we will visit the first in Russia Museum of bells and chimes. The museum will acquaint you with the peculiarities of various sorts of bells, such as church, shepherd’s, coachman’s, door, office, ship, fire, and souvenir bells and little bells. Bells located in belfries give visitors a chance to listen to their ringing, observe ringing techniques and methods, and even try ringing themselves. The museum funds harbour records of the most famous bell ringing compositions, documents on the history of bell ringing, relative books, as well as contacts of bell researchers, casters, ringers, etc.
We will also visit the Museum of the County town, which is considered to be the first in our country a Museum on the history of the city. The Museum has 5 halls, each of which reflects a particular way of life of the County town.
